[Announcement] Application for degree examinations for graduate students in second semester of the 114th academic year

Graduate students who wish to apply for a thesis/dissertation defense shall be subject to the following guidelines:

1. Application shall be submitted between February 5, 2026 to July 24, 2026. Please lodge your application online: https://selcrs.nsysu.edu.tw/edu_apply/edu_apply_login.asp

2. Last date for the Degree Examination: July 31, 2026.

3. All graduate thesis must pass the similarity check, which shall be done in two stages:

a. The first stage is the similarity check of the first draft of the thesis before the degree examination application.

b. The second stage is the similarity check of the final version of your thesis after the degree examination.

4. In accordance with the Ministry of Education’s latest directive, a new mechanism for delaying the public release of graduate theses and dissertations will be implemented starting from Academic Year 2025 (114th Academic Year).

  • Students must apply for thesis embargo prior to their degree examination.
  • Applications must include supporting documentation and will be reviewed by the degree examination committee during the oral defense.
  • Embargo requests must be based on legitimate reasons such as confidentiality, patent application, or legal restrictions.
  • Each approved Embargo period may last up to five years.

5. Please submit the first draft of your thesis and the first similarity check report to your oral examination committee at least two weeks before the oral examination day.

6. The latest date to submit the grade for the degree examination for students who applied this semester is July 31. Graduate students should complete the Leave School procedures before the registration day of the following semester (early September 2026).

7. Graduate students who complete the Leave School procedure in the middle of the semester may apply for the partial refund of the tuition fee paid. 

8. Graduation and School Departure

(1) Students not enrolled in courses this semester:
After passing the degree examination, the department/institute shall submit the Degree Examination Results Record Form (limited to those who have passed the thesis review) to the Registration Section of the Office of Academic Affairs. Graduate students must inform the department/institute in advance of their exact departure date. Based on the department/institute’s notification, the Registration Section will prepare the degree certificate in advance (notification must be made no later than five working days before the departure date).

(2) Students enrolled in courses this semester:
After passing the degree examination, the department/institute shall submit the Degree Examination Results Record Form (limited to those who have passed the thesis review) to the Registration Section of the Office of Academic Affairs. However, the degree certificate can only be prepared after the semester ends, all course grades have been submitted, and the graduation requirements have been verified as complete and correct.

(3) Graduate students must complete the following steps in the “Graduation Thesis Submission System”:
They must enter and complete thesis information and upload the materials listed below. After approval by the thesis advisor and review by department/institute staff, the thesis submission process will be completed:

  1. Final electronic version of the thesis.

  2. Originality (plagiarism) comparison report.

  3. Statement of Compliance with Academic Ethics for Graduate Theses (blank form as Appendix V).

  4. Thesis public authorization agreement.

(4) For graduate students who have completed the above three items and whose degree certificates have been prepared:
The Registration Section checkpoint in the “Graduation and School Departure System” will display a “Pass” status. Once all units show “Pass,” the school departure procedures are considered complete. Graduate students should then bring their student ID card and one hard copy of the thesis (for theses approved for delayed public release, please attach separately the Application for Delayed Public Release of Degree Theses to the National Central Library; do not bind it with the thesis) to the Registration Section of the Office of Academic Affairs to collect the degree certificate.
